Abstract
Purpose: We evaluated the results of cemented and uncemented femoral stem revisions due to osteolysis around the femoral stem.

Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and radioloigic resulst of 17 cemented and 10 uncemented femoral revisions which were followed for a minimum of 2 years after revision. The femoral osteolysis was classified by AAOS classification. The level ¥°and ¥± of type ¥± lesions were treated with the primary total hip arthroplasty technique, while allogenous bone graft with cemented(17 hips of elderly patients) or uncemented femoral stem(10 hips of young patients with normal functinal demand) was used for level ¥² of type ¥± lesions and for type ¥² lesions.

Results: Good results were obtained clinically on both the cemented and uncemented femoral stem revisions. A radiolucent line was seen in 5 cases of cemented stem and 2 of uncemented stem. Stable bone fixation was evident in 5 cases and stable fibrous fixation in 2 cases of uncemented femoral arthroplasty.

Conclusion: The incidence of radioucent line was lower and the incidence of stable bony fixation was higher in the uncemented femoral stem revisions than the cemented revisions, as determined in this short-term follow-up study.
